Ziingo Women and Children Initiative
Ziingo Women and Children Initiative is a non-profit organization based in rural Eastern Uganda. Our mission is to empower and uplift women and children in Eastern Uganda through education and economic activities. We focus on providing essential care and support to vulnerable children and orphans, aiming to collectively rebuild lives and improve livelihoods in rural communities.
To realize this, we provide them with seeds to plant which, in turn, increases their household income. Alongside this, we offer vocational training in various disciplines such as tailoring, hair dressing and catering according to one’s interest. This equips them with hands on skills that they can use to earn a living.
We also focus on helping vulnerable children, especially orphans, those living with HIV, and those from very poor families . We provide education opportunities through full sponsorships, and we supply them with scholastic materials and other necessities for their daily lives.
we are also committed to addressing period poverty in rural areas through our comprehensive program. We recognize the importance of menstrual hygiene education and the substantial impact it can have on the lives of girls and women.
Ziingo also improves rural people’s livelihoods through providing solar lighting.
Our Story
I’d like to share a deeply personal part of my journey that has been one of the instrumentals in shaping who we are , and the initiative we are so passionately involved in today.
Growing up in a small village, my family and I faced multitudes of challenges, one of which was the lack of access to basic sanitary essentials. Like many other girls in my village, I almost dropped out of school due to the sheer discomfort and embarrassment that came from not having sanitary pads. This may seem like a trivial issue to some, but it was a harsh reality for many girls in my village, a reality that threatened our education, our dignity and our dreams.
Fast forward to today, I have been blessed with opportunities that have enabled me to break through the barriers that once seemed insurmountable. However the memory of that struggle has not faded -instead, it has fueled a fire within me to make a difference.
Iam proud of Ziingo Women and Children Initiative Uganda that we started 4 years ago that provides free sanitary pads to girls in the villages who are facing the same struggles I once did. I believe that no girl should have to choose between their education and their basic health needs. It’s not just about providing sanitary pads, but also about preserving their dignity, empowering them to continue their education and protecting their dreams.
